What's new.

Toby keeps changing. Here's what's actually shipped for your business, in plain English, newest first.

Toby quotes your prices, never his

You choose how Toby handles money. Leave it as it is and Toby books a look at the job and never says a price out loud. Or fill in your own price list — tap washer $120, blocked drain from $180, hot water $1,200 to $2,400 — and Toby will quote from that list and nothing else.

If the AI ever tries to say a number that isn't on your list, the number is taken out before your customer hears it.

Sign yourself up, in about ten minutes

No phone call with us needed any more. Sign in with your Google account, answer a short set of questions — your trade, your hours, the jobs you don't take, the mobile you want alerts on, and whether Toby books a quote visit or gives a price — and that's the setup done.

We still check every sign-up by hand before your number goes live, so you'll get a text from us within 24 hours. Same day is what we're aiming for.

Toby says no to jobs that aren't yours

Ring a plumber about a dead powerpoint and Toby now says, politely, that you don't do electrical work, and lets the caller go — instead of putting a job in your diary you'd have to ring back and cancel. Toby knows what belongs to which trade, and you can add your own list of jobs you don't take.

It errs toward booking: if it isn't clearly another trade's work, Toby books it and leaves the call to you.

Toby has his own Australian voice

Toby no longer sounds like an American robot reading your business name out. We designed him a voice of his own. He's also better at hearing Australian place names — suburbs are now checked against a real list near you, so Kiama doesn't come out as Kiamba.

Brand new. We're still measuring how quickly he comes back at you on a live call.

Connect your calendar yourself

You can now connect your calendar from your own login instead of asking us to do it. Google, Apple/iCloud, Outlook and ServiceM8 are all supported, and if your software isn't on that list you can paste in a subscribe link and Toby will read that.

We're re-testing every calendar against a real booking now that Toby answers calls — tell us straight away if something doesn't land where you expect it.

Toby answers the phone now

The big one. A missed call used to get a text back and a conversation by SMS. Now Toby picks up and talks — asks what the job is, where, and when suits, and books it while you're still under the house.

Texts haven't gone anywhere: your confirmations, reminders and the alert to your own mobile are all still texts.

A follow-up text after a quote visit

If a customer gets a quote visit booked and then goes quiet, Toby now sends one follow-up text a few days later asking how they'd like to proceed. It sends once, never chases someone who's opted out, and never bothers a customer who's already rebooked.

Job cards in ServiceM8

If you keep your jobs in ServiceM8 but your diary is somewhere else, Toby can now open a ServiceM8 job card automatically every time it books a visit — name, phone, job and time already filled in, so it's in both places without you re-typing it. Ask us to turn it on.

Toby can now tune himself to your business (optional)

Turn this on and once a month Toby reads back the conversations he's had for your customers and sharpens his own wording — better job vocab, better answers to the questions your customers actually ask. The safety rules — never quote a price, never book without a clear yes — can't be changed by this, ever. It's an optional extra on top of your plan.

Toby catches "stop texting me" far more often

We widened the list of ways people actually ask to be left alone — slang, misspellings, polite phrasing — so Toby recognises far more of them and stops immediately, permanently, the way the law requires.

Toby recognises a lot more real emergencies

Toby used to only reliably catch plumbing emergencies. It now recognises gas leaks, electrical hazards, fire and water emergencies across many more of the ways people actually describe them, and sends the caller straight to 000 (or your own after-hours number) instead of trying to book a quote.

Toby will never claim a booking that isn't real

A new check catches any moment Toby's wording sounds like a booking was made when nothing actually saved, and swaps in the truth before the customer hears it — so nobody is ever told "you're booked" for a slot that isn't in your calendar.

Book the job, not just the quote

Mobile mechanics, cleaners, pest control, locksmiths and lawn care businesses can now have Toby book the actual job instead of a quote visit. It's a setting on your account — ask us to switch it, or set it to ask the customer which one they mean.

More calendars supported

Toby now works with Outlook / Microsoft 365 and Apple/iCloud, Fastmail, Zoho and Nextcloud calendars, not just Google. You can also point Toby at your ServiceM8 job list as its calendar instead.

A calendar link you can subscribe to

Every business now gets a private calendar feed you can add to your phone's calendar app, so Toby's bookings show up wherever you already look — even if you're not using the calendar Toby writes to.

Toby moved to the cloud

Toby no longer needs a phone or SIM card sitting in your office. Calls and texts now run through a dedicated Australian mobile number hosted in the cloud — more reliable, and nothing for you to keep plugged in and charged.

Reminder texts before every visit

Your customers now get a reminder text before their visit, with the option to reply CANCEL or RESCHEDULE right there in the message. Fewer no-shows, and less back-and-forth for you when plans change.

Checks every calendar you've connected

If you keep more than one calendar, Toby now checks all of them before offering a time to a customer — so nothing gets double-booked because it only looked at one.

Reply STOP, anytime

Every text Toby sends can be stopped with a simple reply of STOP. It's permanent, and it's built into every message by law.
